A coastal Flood Warning remains in effect from 7 am Wednesday to 1 PM EST Thursday.
Westerly winds of 30 to 40 knots with higher gusts will develop on Wednesday and continue Wednesday night. The strong westerly flow will increase water levels over the eastern portions of the Albemarle and Pamlico sounds and adjacent Outer Banks. Water levels will rise 3 to 4 feet above normal on the sound side of the Outer Banks Wednesday and continue into the first part of Thursday. Winds will diminish Thursday with the higher water levels gradually subsiding along the sound side of the Outer Banks.

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued a High Wind Warning... which is in effect from 7 am to 10 PM EST Wednesday. The high wind watch is no longer in effect.
An area of low pressure will move off the North Carolina coast tonight and rapidly deepen off the mid Atlantic coast Wednesday as strong high pressure builds in from the northwest. The resulting tight pressure gradient will produce strong westerly winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph across the Outer Banks from late Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening. Winds are forecast to slowly subside late Wednesday night and Thursday.
